• RG3 drops in on D.C.-area students headed to Baylor this fall

Baylor Send-Off Party in Washington, D.C.

Last week was a good week for former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, BA ’10. The new Washington Redskins starting quarterback signed his first professional contract, debuted in a pair of new commercials for Adidas and Gatorade (see those below), and jumped right into rookie camp with the Redskins.

But even after hitting the big time, Griffin still found time to join a group of incoming and current Baylor students over the weekend at a Summer Send-Off Party in Washington, D.C., organized by the Baylor Parents League. RG3, his mother Jacqueline, and his fiance Rebecca Liddicoat, BS ’10, joined President Ken Starr and his wife, Alice, to show support and share a few words with the newest members of the Baylor family.

Such Send-Off Parties are held all over the country each summer to introduce new students and their parents to current Baylor students and their parents, providing a local support system for Bears and their families all over the country. About 65 such events are planned for this summer, from Seattle and San Diego to Boston and Miami and all over Texas.

Griffin gave the Bears gathered in D.C. a few words on what to expect in college, and reminded them “Just be you.” (Or was that “Just BU?”) I’ve said it before, but Baylor couldn’t ask for a better representative of what this university stands for than Robert Griffin III.

    Here are those commercials:

Note the “electricity” socks RG3 is wearing on the field in the Adidas commercial — just like the uniforms worn by Baylor men’s basketball during their Elite Eight run this spring. Just one more way (however subtle) that RG3 continues to show his love for Baylor.

    Sic ’em, RG3!
